Elon Summer Journalism Camp
Year five of the Emerging Journalists Program at Elon University started this month with its first virtual workshop, but there’s still time for them to apply. High schoolers of any class year are welcome to join these virtual sessions. But better yet, we’re now starting to review applications for the free, fun and immersive summer experience that’s scheduled for June 15-25, 2026. This on-campus residential learning workshop is open to rising seniors from diverse socio-economic, racial and ethnic backgrounds. And, again, it’s completely free. EJP pays for students’ travel, lodging, meals and instructional materials, so now’s the time for your students to submit their applications.
Last year’s summer cohort produced a newspaper, a 40-minute newscast and a website. Here’s a snapshot of what our students did while on campus with us.

Applications for the EXPOSURE experience only (virtual sessions) will remain open for the next few months, but applications for the on-campus summer IMMERSION experience should be submitted by late January/early February. Assistant Professor of Journalism
The Draelos Science Scholars program is a 6-week summer research opportunity which places students in mentored lab experiences in chemistry, genetics, nanoscience, biology, and psychology. Students who complete the program will receive a $750 stipend and a letter of recommendation from their lab mentor. It is an incredible opportunity to gain practical experience in the lab and work alongside practicing scientists.
The program is intended for current juniors and exceptional sophomores with serious interest in science. Students must commit to the entire 6 week lab placement.
